Hi, I’m Mahlon. The name rhymes with “Salon” and I didn’t really have a choice in the matter, but growing up with it helped shape me into the creative that I am. I had a hard time growing up with a name so very different than many of my peers, the Johns, the Chris’s, even the Malcom’s or the Eddie’s. When I was in maybe 1st grade, I confronted my Mom, about why she saddled me with this hard to pronounce moniker! Well it turns out its a family name that goes back generations, its also a person who lived for a whole page and a half in the Bible. It also means “Mild” in islamic, even though I am generally not. At the time, I was enamored with the name, “Tony”, and had begun signing all my school assignments as such. Where my name came from, and what it meant didn’t really change much for 6 year old me, what my mom told me next did. She said, “You don’t have to have that name if you don’t want… If you want to change it, you can, I’ll help you do it…BUT, you might find that a little later in life, when you get older that you might like being different...being different can be kind of cool” The moral of the story is I held off on changing my name to “Tony” and I embraced being different…Its something that has extended past the name I’m called and into how I approach life and being creative. Different is good. I seek out different in whatever I make…whether its an Illustration, a spread layout, branding project or song; I want to take the perspective that hasn’t been taken. I want to bring unique and different approaches to the forefront. I am a Designer, Illustrator, Writer and Musician and each assignment I take on is an opportunity to contribute something new, something different to the creative consciousness. Let’s make something cool together.
